United Methodist Church Communications Online

A featured resource of the Online Community of the United Methodist Church is the Circle of Hope. When you join the Circle of Hope, each month you will receive by e-mail a Story of Hope from the people of The United Methodist Church. The stories will be highly inspirational and will demonstrate the power of faith in action.

BOOK REVIEWS: UMC.org, the official online ministry of The United Methodist Church, publishes a critical review of a recently released book of fiction or non-fiction once a month. What makes Book Reviews unique is that it pays special attention to the spiritual and “human condition” elements of the narrative. Clicking on the image below will take you to their site for the review. You may also look at past book reviews.

MUSIC REVIEWS: Each month, UMC.org also publishes six critical reviews of recently released compact discs. A critical review is one in which the writer describes and evaluates the piece of music and supports this evaluation with clear evidence. Every two weeks, three new reviews are published. Though UMC.org reviews music of all genres, titles are chosen based on their message. Meaning, we will only review music that challenges its listeners to ponder significant issues facing us as Christians.

MOVIE REVIEWS: UMC.org selects films to review that are worth your time to go see. Films are viewed through a kind of spiritual lens, as opposed to focusing on the art form itself, we look for what the works seem to be saying about relationships, values and the human condition. Each review includes a study guide, complete with questions and activities for further exploration. These study guides are developed for small groups.
